Lifestyle Disease

As the Christmas season approaches, it's funny that my son is studying "lifestyle diseases". He asked me about one of the questions on a study guide..."Why is atherosclerosis called a lifestyle disease"?

Well, my answer was about diet and exercise. It's true, you are what you eat- putting fatty foods in your body will cause fat deposits to "stick" to your arterial walls which makes it harder for blood to flow through reaching other organs more slowly than if the walls were "clear"...

Sure exercise strengthens those muscles we can see like biceps, triceps and calves, but the muscle you really want to be strong is the HEART!!

Take care.
